Mr.Mark,Humble Genius

கல்லூரி நாட்களில் ஓவிய ஆசிரியர் மார்க் அவர்களை தெரிந்தவர்கட்கு அறிமுகம் தேவை இல்லை,ஓவிய சிற்ப கூடமாக எங்கள் கல்லூரியின் ஆர்ட் ரூம் ,அதன் முக்கியத்துவம் பல வருடங்கள் பின்னர் தெரிய வந்தபோது அவரின் ரசனை மட்டுமே இன்று எம்முடன் உள்ளது ,அவர் எம்முடன் இல்லை

Mr. Mark came to Hartley during its glorious days when Hartley was excellingin all three academic fields, Maths, Biology and social sciences under the devoted services of some hand chosen teachers most of whom were old boys of Hartley. Mr. Mark brought a new dimension to Art and captured the hearts of many students and had many converts in his field. His modern art was acclaimed by artist not only in the North of Sri Lanka but also in the whole>country as one of its kind. His creations from sea shells and corals were a treat to watch. Being single he resided most of his time in the Hostel and his room was full of his masterpieces. In spite of all this he was a simple man. He was at times an acting warden of the Hostel and students liked him as he was very receptive to their wishes. He served Hartley for nearly twenty years and there are many students who have passed through him.

அண்மையில் காலமான கலைஞர் திரு ஆதிமூலம் அவர்கள் பற்றிய சிறு குறிப்பு நவீன ஓவியத்தை மக்களிடம் கொண்டு சென்றவர்களில் முக்கியமானவர் அறுபதுகளில் சிறு பத்திரிக்கை இயக்கத்துடன் இணைந்து இதை ஆரம்பித்து வைத்தார்.

Born in 1938 in Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu, K. M. Adimoolam’s natural aptitude for drawing at an early age made him move to Chennai in 1959. There, under the influence of the sculptor Dhanapal, he enrolled in the School of Arts and Crafts. After completing his Diploma in Advanced Painting in 1966, Adimoolam started a series of black and white portraits of Mahatma Gandhi. Sketching from photographs of the great man, he finished nearly a hundred drawings that moved over 60 years of the Mahatma’s life.

நான்கு வருடங்களுக்கு முன் சந்தித்தபோது தனது ஓவியகூடத்தில் உரையாடியது எனது ஞாபகத்திலிருந்து .......எனக்கு சில நவீன ஓவியங்களை புரிந்து கொள்ள முடியவில்லையே? இது கணித சமன்பாடுகள் போல கணிதம் படித்தவர்தான் புரிந்து கொள்ள முடியுமா என கேட்டபோது சிரித்து கொண்டே ஒரு ஆசிரியர் போல தனது ஓவிய வளர்ச்சியும் தான் எவ்வாறு கோட்டு ஓவியம் மூலம் சிறிது சிறிதாக பரிமாணம் அடைந்து நீர் வண்ண ஓவியங்களுக்கு வந்ததை விளக்கினார் .ஒரு ஓவியத்தை புரிந்துகொள்வதை விட அதன் மூலம் நீங்கள் என்ன உணர்வினை பெறுகிறீர்கள் என்பது முக்கியம் என்றார். நான் ஏதோ சிலவற்றை புரிந்து கொண்டேன் மிகவும் பொறுமையுடன் புரியவைத்தார் . கடைசியில் நான் உங்கள் தமிழ் எழுத்துருவை மிகவும் ரசித்து பார்ப்பேன் ஏனெனில் அவை ஓரளவு பாரம்பரிய எழுத்துருவில் இருந்து மாறுபட்டது என்றபோது மிகவும் பெரும்தன்மையாக அது என் சொந்த உருவாக்கம் இல்லை ,நான் அதை பழைய ஓலை சுவடியில் இருந்தும் கல் வெட்டுகளில் இருந்தும் உருவாக்கியதாக சொன்னார்,இதுவே வெளி நாடாக இருந்தால் அந்த எழுத்துருவுக்கு காப்புரிமை உங்களுக்கு கொடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று சொன்ன போது மனம் விட்டு சிரித்தார்.இன்றும் தமிழில் இவரின் தாக்கத்தை பல புதிய எழுத்துருவில் பார்க்கலாம்.என்னை மிகவும் கவர்ந்த ஓவியர். வணிக ரீதியாகவும் பிரபல்யம் அடைந்தவர் அதே நேரம் மிகவும் மென்மையான மனிதர்.
